With big stars flooding the small screen this year, we cannot afford to not tune in every evening. 2010 saw an array of Bollywood superstars like Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Akshay Kumar and Madhuri Dixit descend on the tube as hosts, guests or judges on reality shows. So while entertaining the audiences, television was bound to have its share of controversies. To name a few:
I&B ministry axes explicit content:The year started with the I&B ministry cracking down on explicit content. A love expose reality show along with the one hosted by actor Salman Khan and item girl Rakhi Sawant’s show were asked to change their time slots to 11 pm, following protests and notices from the ministry.
Dolly Bindra creates havoc: Actor Dolly Bindra entered a reality show house and all hell broke loose. Dolly, known for her motormouth and knack to pick fights, created a fracas that had the nation talking about her. Once evicted, Dolly was broughtback on public demand. Such is the demand for controversy!
It’s a cup of controversy: Film-maker Karan Johar’s show made an appearance in the last quarter of the year and has already gained a reputation for making headlines! Right from the first episode, the show’s had controversies galore. Be it actors Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra’s verbal spat or Deepika Padukone’s wish to gift actor Ranbir Kapoor a pack of condoms, the show created a stir with the brazenness of the stars.
Hollywood to Pakistan: Not only did B’wood stars made their debut on TV, even Hollywood hottie Pamela Anderson and Pakistani actor Veena Malik made news by being part of a reality show. Both the sultry sirens made sure that people were glued to their TV sets throughout.
Rakhi Sawant being booked for abetment to suicide: Keeping item girl Rakhi Sawant out of our list is as impossible as her doing a girl-next-door role. Those who have watched her talk show will agree that it is a free-for-all slug-fest. But a sensitive soul, Laksham Prasad, apparently took Rakhi calling him impotent to heart and committed suicide. The last we heard there was a case filed against Sawant.
Live weddings on TV:
The trend of real-life marriages on TV, which started in 2009 with Rakhi Sawant, continued this year with politician Rahul Mahajan marrying Dimpy Ganguly in a swayamvar.

Though the news that like both the duos had tension creeping into their relationships, the last quarter saw TV actor Sara Ali Khan entering a controversial wedlock with fiance and actor Ali Merchant on a reality show. As if this wasn’t controversial enough, the couple is now heading for a split already!
